Klassik Car Key with SF Shield (Model Yr 1989-2005)

The SF Ferrari Key is not simply a cheaply made reproduction.  It is made entirely in the USA using high quality materials and manufacturing methods.  The key blank itself is nickel-plated brass.  Nickel-plated brass extends the key life and helps maintain a "like new" look for a longer period of time.  The bow of the key is encapsulated in high strength black polycarbonate.  Once encapsulated, the key is then placed into a double-cavity plastic injection mold and the outer shells are over-molded using colorized acrylic thermoplastic ... the same material is often used for motorcycle and race car windshields as well as aircraft windows and canopies.  The encapsulation and over-molding process produces a homogeneous key head that is impact and scratch resistant.  A recess on one of the outer faces allows for the placement of a small metal shield emblem.  This manufacturing method is costly, but assures that the key head has excellent cosmetics, is completely homogeneous and securely holds the metal key.  The key will never work loose.  Although similar to the cavallino keys, new plastic molds had to be created and the SF shield is more costly than the cavallino.

Once the key head is produced, each key is then inspected and any surface blemishes are removed by hand-buffing and polishing.  When the key passes inspection, the shield is inlaid in the recess using a specially formulated cyanocrylate adhesive for bonding metal to plastic.

The shield itself has a nickel-plated zinc base with hand-enameld colors.  Each one is hand produced and fired in a very hot oven to set the colors.  The top of the shield is covered with a clear coat of epoxy resin to protect the enameled surface.  This process promises long life and good looks.

The entire process is very costly, but we strive to keep the cost down and affordable.  The Klassik Key shown here is of higher quality and will retain its good looks better than the original key of similar design:

• No paint or coating to chip or peel

• Should minor scratches develop, they can be polished out using a polish designed for acrylic plastic
